Recap of The Congressional Summit & Hill Day 2022

If you didn’t attend the 2022 AACS Hill Day, you missed an incredible SOLD-OUT event. Attendees engaged over a dozen leaders from a broad spectrum of education organizations and the Department of Education who provided a healthy dialog regarding the proposed regulations being drafted by USDE including Gainful Employment. A recurring theme expressed by our attendees was the failure of the Department to provide a voice to our sector of education. After Ben Miller, Deputy Under Secretary, Office of the Under Secretary suggested we provide alternative solutions, AACS Executive Director, Cecil Kidd asked Ben for assistance to set up a meeting with either Secretary Michael Cardona or Undersecretary James Kvaal.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema closed out the first day of our Congressional Summit with an interactive Q&A session where she showed a strong knowledge and support of our sector of education. Everyone was out of their seats in awe of her openness and sincerity. It was a great ending to a dynamic first day. On Wednesday, we hit the Hill with over 50 scheduled appointments with members of Congress, Senators and staff!!

Our attendees left Congressional members and staff with a better understanding of our sector of education and the current challenges we face. Our ask was simple, help us in ensuring our message is heard, that we have a seat at the table and our students have freedom of choice to use their grants and loans at the institution that best meets their needs. #DontCutUsOut

Thank you to everyone who flew to DC to advocate for our students and to tell their stories of success and contributions that impact their communities. Beauty has a voice and it’s beautiful!

Let’s keep the momentum going! Don’t miss out again, see you at the 2023 Congressional Summit & Hill Day!
