You Don't Just Wake Up and Become a Butterfly
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Each and every one of us has been challenged these past few months to teach differently, learn differently, and live differently. It hasn’t been easy and, in fact, a few moments might have been downright terrible. This is the time to pause, reflect and create an intentional roadmap for your future. How will you handle this new phase of teaching, learning and living? How will you chart your path to success in this new reality? Now, more than ever, we must embrace a growth mindset. A concept so beautiful in its simplicity — our abilities are like muscles that can change and grow. It will take patience, an open mind and trust in yourself. But with a little effort, you can get there. After all, none of us just wake up and become butterflies.

Blended Education: Striking the Perfect Balance
11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.
In the past 6 months, the entire education system got flipped upside down! Today, when we talk about teaching, the biggest conversation we are all having, at all levels, is the need for and delivery of hybrid learning. COVID-19 threw us all into the deep end of the pool with remote learning and we did whatever we could to make it work for our students. Now, as we head back to our schools, the idea of creating a permanent, workable blended or hybrid program is not only possible, but something that we must do! In this session, we will dive into how to design, create, and deliver a blended program that not only works for your education team but ensures your students are set up for success!

Digital Marketing During the Pandemic: What Happened & What You Should Do Next
12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
Let’s face it, 2020 has been a wild ride! The outbreak of COVID-19 has been particularly difficult for the beauty industry. With many businesses still affected by closures and the pandemic at large, we want to give beauty schools an idea of what worked and what didn’t early on in the outbreak and what we recommend doing moving forward. We’ll show you real results, ranging from schools who paused everything, to schools that went all-in on taking over their market. See how your school stacks up!

Compliance with Class: Educator's Guide for Not Getting Your School Sued
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Educators have more contact with students than anyone in our schools. Schools and students love them for their passion and dedication to the craft. We forget sometimes that their front and center role with students means they need to know more than just cuts, color, and techniques. Our educators are on the front line for many complicated compliance concerns such as Title IX, the ADA, and loads more. Educators do their best to deal with these complicated issues, but we need to do more to help them. AACS General Counsel Edward Cramp will bring his decades of experience to bear on this challenge in this session designed to help teach our teachers.
Presented by Edward Cramp, Duane Morris LLP
Building Your Students’ Brand Through Social Media
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
To build their brand, clientele and business, your students can rely on a smart social media plan to organically market themselves. Sharing your personal life can give others a sense of who you are, but it’s not necessarily professional. This workshop will help you walk your students through the process of how they want to present themselves, and share some free social media tools to make their visuals sing.
Presented by Victoria Lim
Pigmentation 101

You will learn how slight differences in skin physiology influence the course of treatment, the melanogenesis process and what occurs at each stage of the pigmentation process, which ingredients interrupt the melanogenesis process and how to select the appropriate ingredients to treat each pigmentary condition.

Preparing for Prosperity
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Why is it that you can place two students with the same training, in the same salon, and one will succeed while the other will struggle? This is such a scary truth and is the very question that has frustrated teachers, students, salons and stylists forever.
In Preparing for Prosperity we’ll discuss the mindset of succeeding students as well as Key Business Drivers that every cosmetology student should learn before ever setting foot in the salon. These drivers will set them up for long term success in their careers. We’ll also discuss delivering your message for maximum learner retention using the See, Hear, Do, Review method.
Presented by Christopher Sulimay, Salon 124 Group
Graduate Success—Are your Students Ready for Real World Career Choices?
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
In a recent beauty school instructor/student survey, 8 out of 10 instructors felt their students were adequately equipped upon graduation to enter the workforce. However, only 4 out of 10 graduates felt they were adequately equipped to enter the workforce. Where is the disconnect? In this session, gain the resources you need to guide your students down the career path best suited for them. You’ll be able to take and play with the same career quiz you can take back to your students to determine if they are better suited to be a successful employee, or if they are ready to start their own business right after graduating. We’ll discuss resume/online portfolio options and resources, ideas to build one’s resume while in school, review important questions to ask if you are thinking of starting your own business, and set realistic expectations for students’ career goals.

Cultivating Community Culture
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
The #newnormal has everyone rethinking what classroom really indicates—it’s not just a brick and mortar environment anymore but has become a place without borders and full of screens. Educators need to create a positive culture and an engaging community, no matter where, or what the learning environment may look like. Maintaining and supporting a positive culture with learners and providing a space in which they thrive—within a traditional classroom, or from a distance, is a must. Now, more than ever, we need to shift the way we navigate these environments and support learners to become active participants along their journey.
Presented by Daniel Dunworth and Jason Russell, Pivot Point
Who are you? Who do you work with? Who are your customers? Let's take a personality test and find out!
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
In this session we attempt to answer the question Michael Scott asks Toby in the hit TV series THE OFFICE:
Michael: Why are you the way that you are? Honestly every time I tried to do something fun or exciting… you make it NOT that way. I hate so much about the things you choose to be.
If you aren’t familiar with the show, don’t worry, we’ll play that clip first thing.
So how do you handle people like that?
Look, sometimes it is that other person. They are brash and annoying and clearly they were raised in a barn. Then again, sometimes it’s you. Sometimes we have had a bad day and we take it out on the nearest, weakest target. It isn’t the way it should be, but when we are honest with ourselves we admit that we aren’t always the angel our mothers think we are.
In this session, I’d like you to consider a third option: Sometimes it isn’t you and it isn’t them. It is the combination of you AND them.
We will learn first which personality type we are. Once we have that foundation, we will discuss each of the personality types and why they do the things they do. Based on the idea that knowledge is power, this class will empower you to be able to handle each and every person that you might come across in a given day.
We’ll laugh. We’ll cry. We’ll become more self-aware. Or is that the red me speaking?

Using Instagram to Sell: What To Teach Students
1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Instagram is a key platform stylists are using to build their book of business. If your students are not utilizing Instagram well, they could be losing hundreds of dollars from potential clients they’re missing.
In this session you’ll learn how Instagram can function like a website: how to get found, how to create the right content and how to sell! You can take this information back to your students to help them hit the ground running. For anyone working behind the chair, this is an opportunity to boost your own social game!
We’ll go over how to correctly use the Pinned Highlights section of an Instagram account, what a feed should look like and ideas for Stories on Instagram.
This is a hands-on, interactive session.
Attendees should come prepared with logins to their Instagram account, a fully charged phone, a few high-quality photos and a desire to learn social media marketing.

Introduction to Treating Skin Imperfections & Irregularities with an Emphasis on Skin of Color
10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
This session is aimed to empower those in the world of Esthetics, or entering Esthetics with information on ways to safely introduce skin imperfections and irregularity treatments to their clients. Broadening this understanding is crucial in Esthetics, as many may not have had real life experience or thorough education with treating Fitzpatrick 4-6. The landscape in Esthetics has evolved greatly throughout the years, and treatments that were once not advised, or not designed for darker skin types are now part of the norm. Understanding that these modalities are available to the Esthetician, how they work, how to safely use them to provide outstanding results, and knowing when to connect clients to a Dermatologist make this a valuable presentation for any skin care professional. Even for the Esthetician whose focus is solely makeup, brows, lashes, or waxing – or Cosmos, Nail Techs & Massage Therapists, this presentation is a valuable asset that will aid in strengthening knowledge, confidence, and success in the Beauty Industry.
